It all begins with an idea.

Ancora is the Latin word for anchor, a device that keeps a ship locked into position. An anchor is also a symbolic object. It represents stability and hope and can be the one small tool that grounds a ship in place, keeping it from drifting off into the open sea. Ancora Cafe is the place where clients find grounding in Albuquerque in their recovery journey.

People in recovery need more than a job to move beyond the barriers of addiction; they need the stability provided by a caring community, the skills to improve their situation, and a safe space to learn and practice those skills with the support of certified peer support workers. Simply put, they need an anchor.

As a 501(c)(3), Ancora Transitional Services’ mission is to provide marketable skills and comprehensive community support services to individuals in recovery. Through our community-focused café and bakery, Ancora provides quality training in barista skills, cooking, baking, customer service, cash handling, leadership, and teamwork. All in a sober, judgment-free, and safe environment. We operate in partnership with Perfectly Imperfect, a counseling center specializing in supporting, accepting, and developing healthy behavioral changes.

We hope that this experience will enable our participants to successfully transition into independent, sober living and employment.

OUR HISTORY.

Ancora Transitional Services was established in 2017, after finding a building and doing renovations we finally opened December 4, of 2020. This included a café and bakery, and indoor and outdoor performance spaces operated by intensive outpatient program participants from throughout the community and local community members.

Since our opening we have help several events including local musicians, spoken word, and pop-up vendors. Ancora has sponsored activities such as painting night, pottery night, and weekly self-care Sundays brunch which includes waffles and a free yoga class to the community.
